Currently, he is associated with  Delhi School of Business, Vivekananda  Institute of Professional Studies- Technical Campus , Delhi . Dr. Rattan Sharma​

Dr. Sharma began his career in teaching at an affiliated college of Delhi University. Some of the elite institutes where Dr. Sharma has worked include:

  • Indian Institute of Management- Lucknow
  • Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon
  • S.P.Jain  Institute  of  Management  and  Research,  Mumbai,  where  he  served  as  Director  of Center of Family Managed Businesses
  • Administrative Staff College of India,Hyderabad
  • BULMIMwhere he was the founder, Director; a constituent of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan
  • He has also worked asDirector of a business school in the private sector

Dr. Sharma was also EFMD fellow in Manchester Business School, U.K.

He is a professional trainer and conducts short duration programs for executives at various levels in the corporate  as  well  as  Government  sectors  and  help  sharpen  their  management  skills.  He has conducted / directed / was involved  in more than 200 short duration programs during his  stay at MDI- Gurgaon, IIM-Lucknow, and ASCI- Hyderabad, BULMIM. Typically, his involvement was   in MDPs  offered for different levels of management in the area of  Financial Management, Cost Management  and General Management for PSUs like ONGC, MMTC, IPCL , Airport Authority of India, NTPC etc. He  was also associated with MDPs offered for Government officials – IAS officer, IFS officers etc. and  for some banks and other State   Public Enterprises.  He has done MDPs on: Finance for Non Finance Executives, ,Zero  based budgeting, Security Analysis  & Portfolio Management, Cost  Analysis & Management, Activity Based Costing etc. apart from  General Management topics like  Problem Solving, Leadership  & other modules.

He is  a  member  of  a  number  of  professional  bodies  and  helps  various  institutes  in  their  efforts  to provide quality and relevant management education.  In addition, he was  a  Visitor’s  nominee  in Department of Commerce,  Aligarh  Muslim  University,  Faculty  of  Management  Studies  of  Delhi University and a member of committee of Credit Appraisal and Evaluation of PICUP.

His Ph. D was on identifying Financial Variables and their Impact on P/E ratios of Corporate Equities in India. He has written several articles in this field. He was awarded the best article award of the Year by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 1987. He has examined several Ph.  D thesis   submitted to various Institutes/ Universities like   IIT-Delhi, Jamia Milia   & Delhi. Apart from research and training he has been a consultant to various organizations in different industrial sectors.

He interacts  with  the  industry  and  government  sectors  in  various  capacities  .  His areas of interest include corporate Governance, CSR, Sustainability, Strategy.

Research Publications

  1. P/E Ratios and Investment Decisions, The Chartered Accountant , October, 1984 (Won the Best Article Award for 1985-86 from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi). In this article the role of fundamental security analysis was highlighted under both the situations whether stock markets are efficient or not.  A theoretical framework using P/E ratio analysis was proposed to help investors in taking investment decisions.  Attempt was to relate theory with practice of investment decision-making.
  2. Financing Equipment Acquisition through Lease-An Analysis- co-authored, ASCI journal of Management, March 1985. It attempted to highlight the evaluation of lease as a source of finance from lessors’ point of view making use of both quantitative as well as qualitative analysis.
  3. Zero-based Budgeting – Reality or Myth, Management Accountant, April 19085. It explored the possibility of using zero-based budgeting in governmental activities in India in order to derive the benefits of better allocation of scarce resources among competing uses.
  4. Industrial Sickness: An Analysis, ASCI Journal of Management, September, 1985. Attempted to analyse the causes of sickness in Indian Industries and the possible solutions.
  5. Prevention is better than cure, Fortune India June 1986. Attempted to describe various stages under which a unit passes through before finally becoming sick.  Need for preventive strategy was emphasized.
  6. A re-look at Financial Statement Analysis, – Business Standard, March 29 & 30, 1988. Used a simple but logical framework to analyse the performance of a company using some pertinent ratios with the help of data gathered from annual reports of a multi product, multi division company  of India viz. Delhi Cloth Mills Ltd.
  7. Implementation of Zero Base Budgeting Business Standard, June 1988. With the declared objectives of Government of India to use zero based budgeting in its budgeting exercise, it attempt to suggest the way to go about its implementation in various public sector undertakings – Central as well as States.
